I have received an update from Councillor Timothy Huxtable, and I have extracted the following points.

Both developers are still keen to aquire the land.
The process is subject to a complex legal issue.
A public report is expected soon, and will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.

The subject was addressd at the last Ward Committee mtg. and I dont think there is any need to bring it up at Mondays meeting unless there is further developement.

I was down in Stirchley last week what a sad sorry state it is in.
take away ,take away and no doubt more take away,s it only consists of take away,s and beer.
Same as Selly Oak
Is this situation  because there is a spill over of the student population ,and thier appetite for the above ,that Stirchley has no variety of proper shop,s
There has to be a reason for it ?
Dont get me wrong i also love the taste of Indian cuisine and a beer ,but come on there has to be a stop to this (don,t there)?
Obviously the powers that be must be happy with the situation (councilors)? or there would have been a cap put on them?
Any way just 1 man,s gripe about a place he was bought up

Hi Mart,
There is a cap on the opening of any new restaurant, unfortunately, if a shop has sold as much as a hot pie on a regular basis, they can open a take away (this is the law, and we all know it to be an ass) one application slipped through the blanket ban last year, this is because, when an appeal is lodged, it goes to Bristol (they are unbiased) but they look at the surrounding business's and can see no reason but to allow it.
Al thought, that shop was renovated, and permission granted for an A3 takeaway, no one has taken the shop in about a year, talk to the local restaurant owners, and they don't want any more restaurants opening, not enough business for those that are already here.

There is a new town centre manager now for Stirchley,Selly Oak and Cotteridge, who works directly with local traders, he came to a Stirchley Neighbourhood Forum Meeting in January, to explain what his role is (Minuets are posted on this forum, for more information, take a look at January) We said at the meeting we want more shops that open during the day, such as clothing, shoes delicatesen etc, but of course, he can't make that happen only encourage it.

Hey Pete,
surley the council could give some sort incentive like a reduced rate or something, surely getting a nice shop would be better than leaving it empty and falling into an eysore.

Hi Phil,
I don't think the council have the powers to do so, if i remember correctly, the business rates are set by government, I believe that Mat Powell is busy trying to encourage new business in Stirchley, But, as we mentioned in Previous posts, easy parking is one of the main Problems, with Cotteridge, there have been the type of shops that people want and are willing to use the bus for, they have a bank, postoffice, bakers, newsagents, florists, and the neighbourhood office along with cafes open during the day plus two supermarkets in the middle of town, until we get more shops of choice, it will be hard to persuade any business to come (I think the rates in Stirchley are lower than cortteridge, but I may be wrong.
