Wassail Sunday 13th January
« on: January 11, 2019, 12:24:56 PM »
Hope you can join us this Sunday for the Wassail.

Meet at 4.30pm at the entrance to the Rea Valley cycle path on Dogpool lane. Just down from Dads Lane chip shop. The event will run until 6pm, and after you are invited to join us as we head to the British Oak pub in Stirchley where they will have Mulled cider for us, and a fire outside.

Wassailliing is an ancient custom of visiting orchards in mid-winter, originally developed in cider-making regions. People would normally recite incantations, make noise and sing to the trees to promote a good harvest for the coming year. For our wassail we will visit various orchard sites in the area all the way up to Hazelwell park's Kingdom Forest Garden on Hazelwell road.
