How many are left who were able to use the Stirchley swimming Baths.I went to Kings Norton
Grammer School and about 1942-3,we used to cycle to the Baths, the entire form as I recollect.
It was there that I learnt to swim.On our return to school,we used to stop for cakes despite
the rationing

I used to go to Stirchley Baths most weeks during the school holidays (in the 70s).  Me and my mates would use our free pass - gained upon being able to swim a length.  After swimming we would go to the old fashioned sweet shop on Hazelwell Street run by an old gent and his wife.

I still used the baths in the 80s, taking my own children there until it was closed and we had to trek to Cocksmoor's.

i loved stirchley baths. i used to drop the children off on a saturday morning, go shopping and then fish them out an hour or so later. then they would help me trek up fordhouse lane.  i remember the old gent, he often used to ask my children to 'try' the toffee he made as we bought our 2 oz of sweeties from him.  This was in the 70's he is still fondly remembered by them.

We always new it as Hutchins as it was Mrs Hutchins who owned it but then re married the gentleman you was on about.
