Have been informed today that the work ,subject to the weather constraints, should commence on the play area within the next two/three weeks. Not sure how long the work will take but we will definately be able to enjoy the benefits of new equipment going into this park.I would like to congratulate everyone for their sterling effort in bringing this about.
But having said that we must'nt rest on our laurels as we can together achieve much more.    JP

Have been informed today that the work on the park is due to start on the 25/01/2010.

Not sure how long the work will take but hopefully not too long in readiness for the better weather and more folks being in the park to use the new facilities.

Advance notice of a Community Litter Pick on the 27/03/2010 within the park and river. This is proposed to take place between 2-5pm provisionally.

Keep an eye on the park notice board for more details.

     NB
I will be putting on the park notice board a super -imposed mock up picture of the climbing frame area and how it is envisaged it will look.  JP

Hi Jon,
Ever thought about starting a new heading instead of tacking something new on to the bottom of an old thread?

Not as yet.At present this heading and link seem to suffice, but if you have any other ideas or thoughts as to how we can raise the profile then I am willing to take those thoughts on board.    JP

Hi Jon,
Community litter pick, might have been a new heading, by sticking to the same thread, some people might not bother to look.
on the other hand, groups like Stirchley Happenings may want to get involved with a litter pick.

Have been in the park this morning(Sat) to see how the work is progressing and it all seems ok at present. What I did notice though was how much better the parkside view of the river looks with most of the vegetation having died back.I will continue to persue for this to be kept at a sustainable level or cut back entirely.I know there are constraints within this due to the water vole population in the river area.Aesthetically it looks much better to be able to see the river running through the park than being hidden for most of the Spring to Autumn.   JP

Today(Thu) there has been some progress over this week but am concerned with the amount of damage the dumper is causing transporting the earth into the new play area. This won't be a problem as long as the damage done is repaired. To this end I will be contacting the person responsible for the parks in this area of the city to ensure that this will be put right.
What we were promised from the outset was any thing taken out would be replaced.Since the notice board has been moved and all the damage to the grass done I would hope and expect that any bulbs destroyed will be replaced asap.     JP

Could only use the picture given to me and yes it doesn't show the swings on this mock up picture, but having been in the park on Sat the base for the 2 normal+1bucket swing configuration is nearing completion.
My apoligies if this picture has caused any confusion. As you stand on the cycle path looking at the play area the swings will be to the left and is approx 5mx5m.I have also been assured that any damage done to the park and any bulbs lost during  the construction will be replaced.I am keeping an eye on this to ensure that it is done to our satifaction before the contractors leave the site.  JP

I am now under the impression that a selection of trees are being ordered for the park hopefully sooner rather than later to give us a community orchard within the park.I am led to believe a total of 15 trees will be planted.    JP

Work is now on-going in the park.As of today 1/03/10 the rock climbing area was being put up and should be finished by Thu/Fri according to the workmen I spoke to today.

Fifteen trees should be in within the next two weeks.A mixture of different trees, three different varieties.

Notices should be going around for the 'Litter Pick' on the 27/3/10 (2-5 pm) and also 'Easter Egg Hunt' on Easter Monday (2-4 pm).More events to follow in due course.   JP

In regards to the trees going into the park the original concept was that it would be a community orchard but due to the unavailability of suitably large enough trees this ideas has had to be shelved.
Having spoken to the local tree officer he is trying to source some feature trees instead. Not sure on the varieties as of yet but I'm led to believe that all will be decidious trees rather than evergreens due to the cost. There will still be fifteen trees as before.Hopefully these will be in situ within the next week. Will keep you posted as to the progress as and when I know of developments.
Its good to see that the effort of all those last year in planting the bulbs is paying off.Went to the areas yesterday where the bulbs were planted to see how they are progressing and have noticed a good few smallish shoots coming through.Within the next three to four weeks we'll have a good display of colour in those areas.Already the crocuses are showing through and even something as small as that just gives the areas a lift.    JP
