Proposed route; From the Co-op, up, Umberslade road, Raddlebarn Road, Willow Road, Sycamore Road, Linden Road and then return, cutting out Bond Street, and Bournville Lane.
If you want to know more then come and talk to Bill Ralph from the West Midlands Travel at the next Neighbourhood forum meeting on MONDAY 13TH OCTOBER, at 7.30pm alternatively post your comments below, whether or not you are in favor of the proposed route, and why.
It would mean that there would be no bus serving the Station, or Cadbury's, but alternatively would provide a bus to Selly Oak Hospital. Mick

Mick While I expect the changes of the 27 bus route is the necessity of using single decker buses due to the low bridge at Bournville station. I feel that the loss of Bournville station and Cadbury connections could reduce the number of people using that service Also there will be no bus service near Bournville station. With the new development at Q,E. hospital one does not know what services will remain at Selly Oak Hospital. Also besides the 11 bus service to Selly Oak and the 614 bus service which goes via Selly Hospital but seldom used. If you want bus to go via Selly Oak hospital why not alter the route of the 69 bus service Yours sincerely Joachim Auerbach

I totally agree I was only expressing different views, but I believe the reason for the proposed changes are the next generation of single decker buses will be 11' and the bridge is only 10' so an alternative route is therefore needed. Mick

so why not take it up Maryvale Road, which is what happens when there is a problem with Bournville Lane or when they put a decker on the route. That way it would still serve Cadbury's and the Station. There are quite a few pensioners who use the 27 to go to the chocolate shop and the club.(There may have to be be some sort of pulley system installed on Franklin Way,though to get them up the hill ) I shall hopefully be attending the meeting to put my point of view!!

Not a lot of people realise where the 614 goes and the places it serves. The problem has also been it's unreliability in the past with previous operators. However the service seems to have settled down now and almost always has the same driver which gives some sort of continuity to the route. It's a shame it doesn't carry more people, but whoever operates the service get paid by Centro as it's a subsidised route, and they only worry when passengers drop below a certain number per journey. I think the slogan is "Use it or Lose it!"

It has been suggested before about going up Mary vale road and down franklin way, unfortunately, franklin way is privately owned by Cadburys and they will not give permission for the buses to use it. Pete

I wasn't thinking about going down Franklin Way. Straight up Maryvale and turn right onto Linden Rd!

Re-route up Mary Vale Rd? Erm that's just crazy, aside from the fact it's where I live;). Have you not noticed the cars parked both sides and the fact that only one car can squeeze through at a time? To add in a frequent bus service both ways is just madness and I'll certainly be putting my views forward against this eventuality, the number of idiots who scream up and down Mary Vale, parping their little horns furiously as I try to get my son into his car seat and then a bus route into the mix? Nope, bad idea.

The proposal as I see it will be affecting more the actual Bournville village + Cadbury employees or visitors. Cutting out the factory and the station will be detrimental to locals and visitors. Routing a bus up along Umberslade + onto Raddlebarn Road just as difficult - do the tentants on the routes know or is just Stirchley? Bournville Village + right onto the Linden Road another difficult junction. Not very well thought out. A new size bus? In that case keep the current ones on the 27 route. - I get a feeling that the new 'proposed' Tescos will have a hand in this too. Selly Oak hopsital will soon be gone ... confused? I am.... Jax

The only reason they want to re-route is that they want to use double deckers on the route and these will not fit under the Bournville Lane bridge. Personally speaking,National Express West Midlands will do whatever they want. The only people they may listen to is Centro.....but only because on a sunday and certain early morning/late night journeys they receive a subsidy to operate the route. But then again, they could then just withdraw those journeys and another operator could apply for the Tender...........but there aren't that many other operators! As for parked cars on Maryvale Rd etc there are plenty of similar roads in Birmingham that buses manage to negotiate every day (not without delays,I hasten to add!)!!

Whaaaat ! The bus company just CANNOT be serious ! Have they actually consulted the shops on Bournville Green - I'm sure they'll be delighted to have a double decker bus trundling past every 15 minutes !!! What about the congestion there too What about integrated transport ie train and bus ? I use the 27 and have done for years (my stop would be removed under this new proposal !), and will be very annoyed if it is changed. The current route has been in operation for over 55 years so why change it now ?? Approximately 60 years ago the bus went along the one way system and then turned left into Bournville Lane, but this was changed at some point to go around the back of the Co-op. I will be at the meeting tonight and am looking forward to listening to what the bus operator says - what's the betting they've never even travelled on the route themselves !!! Diane
